3D-Scanning Services

EMG-Steel provides integrated 3D-scanning services using an optical-digital scanning system.

ImetricIScanII (Switzerland).

Optical-digital 3D-scanning is a contactless process of digitizing a physical object resulting in creation of a three-dimensional model as an STL file.

3D-scanning services include the following:

— measurement of complex objects by volumetric combination of the original CAD model with a scanned 3D model and subsequent assessment of the size deviation using colour maps of errors in the Geomagic Studio system.;

— reverse-engineering- the volume scanning of existing objects for their copying and correction;

—the design of products, spare parts and accessories withthelack of the original technical documentation for the basic product;

— 3D scanning of complex art forms and casts;

— creating a 3D model of the object for its further manufacture on CNC equipment;

— creating a 3D model of human body parts for medical and other purposes.

 

  1. The cost of the 3D-scanning service depends on such parameters: the size of the scanned object, the geometric complexity and specification.

An objective criterion to estimate the costs is the time spent on achievement of the result — a 3D model.

  1. The details can be divided into three categories of complexity according to the scanning time:
  • simple details (e.g. a ball);
  • a combination of simple geometric shapes;
  • parts with complex curved surfaces and conjunctions.

3.This service includes:

— specialist’s advice on the process of 3D-scanning;

— 3D-scanning of the object;

— connection of scanned surfaces into a single 3D model;

— adjustment of the resulting model;

— saving of the model in STL (OBJ, PLY, WRL, ASII, STEP, IGES);

— optimization of the model for building 3D printingin case of necessity.

  1. An additional service is the convertation of the model from STL to the format suitable for editing in CAD (SolidWorks, Compass). As a result, you get a solid model based on the scanned object.
  2. The cost of the convertation of the STL file to a solid model is determined individually.

3D Reengineering Services

Additive technologies is the generalized name for technologies of the layer-by-layer addition of the material according to the digital model (CAD-model), they are also called layer-by-layer synthesis technologies, in contrast to the existing subtractive technologies of production. The two basic terms— Additive Fabrication (AF) and Additive Manufacturing (AM) — are recommended althoughin the Internet community, scientific and technical literature and the colloquial speech of professionals the wordcombination3D-printing is often used. The main feature or the core value of additive technologies is considered to be thetime reduction of entrance of new products into the market. Digital 3D technologies have opened up the unique possibilities to percept the most complex spatial object forms and engineering structures. Nowadays AF technologies are widely used: thescientific-research organizations create unique materials and fabricswith their help, industrial giants use 3D printers to speed up the production of unique products, the offices of architecture and construction have found a huge potential of quick implementation of the ideas,while design studios literally breathed new life into the design business through additive equipment. Nowadays, tools and parts for airliners, satellites, rockets, medical prostheses, implants, etc. are manufactured in the above mentioned way. The successful research is being conducted in the field of reproduction of living tissues and human organs. The foregoing concludes that AF acquires the status of strategically important high-priority technologies.

EMG-Steel provides additive production services using the industrial laser stereolithography SLA-5000 and VanguardHSselective laser sintering of powder materials.

The most accurate of additive technologies is stereolithography — a method of layer-by-layer hardening of liquid photopolymer with laser. SLA printers are used primarily for the manufacture of prototypes, layouts, models and design components in detailasthe process takes place at the room temperature without thermal forcing. AF technologies are of particular importance for speeding up the production of castings. SLA machines are used to obtain casting master models and casting equipment. For example, growing casting hollow models from photopolymer followed by casting on burning models (Quick Cast technology) makes it possible to shorten the time ofobtaining the first castings while experimental development work by 10.

Brief Technical Specifications of the Laser StereolithographyEquipment SLA-5000:

— the maximum size of the grown model can be 500x500x500mm (the dimensions of a productare unlimited because of the possibility of gluing in the parts);

— the construction speed is 5-7 mm/h;

— theconstructionaccuracy is ± 0,05mm per 100mm;

— thematerial is photopolymer based on epoxy resin.

The equipmentVanguardHSwith selective laser sintering (SLS) allows you to use a variety of powder materials: polyamide and glass-filled polyamide, rubber-like materials, carbon and stainless steel for productionof the parts, models and accessories, small parts of the equipmentwith no expenses on pre-production.

The Advantages of the Technology are the Following:

— high strength and wear resistance of the end products;

— the ability to build multiple models at the same time;

— high printing speed;

— accuracy;

— reduction in the manufacture time of complex products by tens of times in comparison with the traditional methods of processing.

-the maximum size of the desktop is330x270x400mm (dimensions of polyamide products are not limited, it is well bonded material),

— theconstructionaccuracy is ± 0,3mm per 100mm.

— theconstructionspeed is 8-10mm/h.

The SLS technology has been proving itself for more than 10 years. The main customers are enterprises of the foundry, instrument-engineering, aviation, automobile and defense industries as well as those introducing innovative developments.
